CREATIVE PROGRAM

Happiness

Medium Used : Pottery clay making,

Iron wire making and Photography

Size : Around 150-200mm per one child

Year of Creation : DEC 2016

“ Look around! Happiness is trying to catch you ! ”

Our world definitely needs more positive energy, therefore I want to create something that can make people softly smile from their hearts and also forget about the sadness after seeing my artwork.

These buddies are holding different toys and flowers which are made by iron wires. The 2D light and cold iron wire decorations coordinating with the 3D natural blue pottery clay materials can make an interesting contrast.

Moreover, I chose the blue color clay as I think blue is sky, beach and wind, means freedom and without any pressure instead of about distressed. I didn’t choose yellow or orange cause I think they’re too bright and hyperactive. In contrary, blue is more peaceful.

I preferred my “children” are boys. They do not wear any clothes or shoes, finally I also designed them with no hair.

Also they are neither smile nor any expressions, as they mean peaceful and positive. In my mind, positive is not necessarily happy or laugh, it can simply refer to a mental state.

Photography is also a major part of this creation.

The children are called Happiness, they’re small and  everywhere. These photos are showing what are they doing while being around you. I didn’t set the children out as an exhibition place because it’s dangerous, I wanted neither putting them into showcase nor displaying without any protections. Also it would be stupid to display without any decorations.

Therefore I chose to display in the series of photography gallery, and they exhibited on the wall of stairs.

Wild Child

Medium Used : Pottery clay making

Size : 630mm

Year of Creation : MAR 2015

The inspiration of Wild Child is the contrast between children in the past and modern. Holding the flowers with soil and sand, standing on a big rock, and depending on the branch show he enjoys being in nature.

The clay buddy stands straight and faces confidence and serious to outward, he’s proud of what he’s doing. And through these, I want to draw attention of the modern children, “hey you, phones down”.

I faced many problems while I was making him.

At the early process, the clay must be wet during the building time. However, we went through two long holidays, Christmas and Lunar New Year. When I was back to  work, he became moldy! So disgusting! I met this situation three times in the whole process. To solve the problem, I must used the bleach to clean it repeatedly until there’s no mold.

time to fix it I had to use Finally parts of him and the whole original form. few so many wrinkles and destroyed getApproaching to accomplish, he could have been air-dried, I took away the wet towel and tried to find something strong and tall objects to support him that gonna stand up. However, he’s really heavy! He toppled seriously at twice. The accidents caused his legs .further

Neverland • Hong Kong

Medium Used : Acrylic drawing and Opaque plastic making

Size : 1300mm x 900mm

Year of Creation : NOV 2015

The inspiration is come from cartoon Peter Pan. I believe that I can fly through the buildings and clouds too. It must be a really incredible experience.

Fisheye viewpoint can present a wider and an interesting view. When people are looking up at the painting, they will like standing into the scene.

In the painting, there is some fuzzy and softly mist at the bottom of the buildings. It was drawn by a sponge and not painting brush. It can present a further realistic mist. Furthermore, those tiny children are made of opaque plastic and they’re suspended on the top instead of adhere on the painting. They will swing freely with the wind.

歲月和孩 ( We )

Medium Used : Line Drawing

Size : 350 x 350mm per one painting

Year of Creation : JAN 2014

I did a thematic report about Hong Kong during 70s to 90s when I was in Primary school. And I like to realise the Hong Kong old culture so much. Therefore I drew a 4 parts of picture to show the children in different eras.

The white parts of them mean the old era, children played in countryside or the narrow street, in a word that’s they didn’t have toys and only can play with friends. They chased each other, play tricks on each other. The lower right one refers to more recently, the manufacture factory went good in that time, some families brought their works back home, and call the children for help and finish together. Some others rich families bought the western toys like dolls and plastic cars for the children. Ever since the time, toys became popular in Hong Kong.

Two black drawings mean the most recentest era. Since the video games appeared, children never stop to play them. Even the night, they would rather play on the games than sleep.

Also I want to satirize the children in now 2018 who only like to play on their electronic products. In the past, their parents and grandparents only played with insects or some crude toys as so satisfied too. Why are they willing to pay so much money to buy happiness now?
